About Us

Assalamu Alaykum (May Peace be with you)!

This is the website of the Sultanate of Dungon, Homeland Tawi-Tawi, in the Philippines.

Dungon, located on the eastern coast of mainland Tawi-Tawi, on the southern half of the Sulu Archipelago in the Philippines, was an influential stead in the Sultanate of Sulu and North Borneo. When royal capitals in mainland Jolo, like Tulay (Parian) and Maimbung, were subjected to incessant attacks by the Spaniards, Dungon rose to the challenge and became the royal refuge. As such, it became the center of authority and governance while the Sulu Sultan and his court are in the vicinity.

While indigenous monarchies now have no official recognition as a political and sovereign power under the Philippine constitution, they continue to lead, inspire, and influence their constituency through other spheres of collective development. This site was set up with the objective of sharing with the world and documenting the economic, social, and cultural development of the Sultanate of Dungon as well as its historical beginnings and its place in the Sulu history, and as a pioneer in intra-Moro unity in the fight against the colonial power.

Welcome!
